The U14s recorded 2 wins against Wigton and Upper Eden respectively the first game was against Wigton which they won 33-12 with the stand out performer being the captain and stand off Aaron Lawson with a hat trick of tries and 3 very handy conversions and then he did something very special and asked to be subbed off to allow other played to have a go, as a coach this is brilliant to see from one of the players especially at this age the pack showed great promise with there rucking and mauling skills allowing the backs to get the good ball to attack positions to finish the game off with 2 tries from Adam to steal a great win to start the season,
After a short brake (for the lads that didn't play for Upper Eden against Wigton) and with just enough time to watch a little rugby league on the other pitch, it was back to business for the lads the game against Upper Eden with the coaches deciding to throw a curve ball to the team Aaron and Adam who were the stand out players from the first game change strips for the first half to see how the lads did under pressure, the pressure was seen right from the start with both Adam and Aaron putting Upper Eden on the front foot and testing our defence to its limits and with Edens number 7 running great attacking lines a try was inevitable and the defence broke twice in quick succession Adam scoring once, then after the second try the team dug deep and put out a great defensive stint with leaders coming from all round the field with 10 minutes to go the lads sprung in to attack and showed that all the training had paid off with the pods that we use finally make an appearance this was helped with great carries from Sam and James getting us on the front foot and great rucking stopping the Edens number 7 from turning over the ball the way he had been early on again the pack go us that field positioning and with our little Ronnie marshalling the pack around the field and getting that quick ball from the rucks, this meant that the Eden defence was sucked in and with the quick hands of the backs resulted in the try our lads needed to keep us in the game leaving it 10-5 at half time with the lads switching who played for Eden meant that we got our captain back on the field, this allowed us to score quickly after the restart with tries for Aaron and Adam before Adam danced through the Eden defence only to pass the ball to Finlay to score this was great to see the lads working together and not just continually scoring tries after this Adam switch back to Eden and meant that the game was pretty even with no more tries looking like being scored the ref called final play and Ronnie decided to dance through the Eden defence with what looked like a try only to be stopped by a high tackle but the lads had one more try in then with a quick penalty and fast hands and a well timed pass from Aaron to let Ronnie score the final try of the day and with Ronnie taking the kick and just missing it to end the game.
